Randall Giles' setting of this famous text from the II Vespers of the Nativity of Our Lord has great strength as a work for four-part men's chorus. Giles has written a descant for soprano, lending an angelic presence to the texture. An oboe or flute may also be used for the descant to create a different translucent color.

| The work of Randall Giles is particularly impressive. Verbum caro factum est...is haunting...The effect is fresh and perfectly suited to the mystical nature of the text. |
