Many of Austin Lovelace's anthems have been based on Early American tunes, and "The Eyes of Faith" continues that tradition. This particular anthem is based on the tune "Chapin" found in 'Southern Harmony'. After a brief introduction, the choir sings the tune in unison. This is followed by a verse with voices set in imitation, a verse with descant and finally a chorale setting for all voices. This can also be sun SAB, giving the work more flexibility. The text emphasizes the blessing of faith in Jesus, even without seeing "that radiant form of thine."
