I heard an infant weeping

This gentle piece is a setting of a Latin carol:"Dum virgo vagientem," and places great emphasis on subtlety of phrasing and dynamics. Mr. Halls had created a beguiling melody that is supported by close harmony. The second verse is sung by sopranos while the other voices hum an elegant chromatic counterpoint. The third verse begins in unison and expands into harmony only at the close of the piece. This carol is strongly recommended for its intimate lyricism.
