Hear My Cry Holy One

David Ashley White is well known for his fresh and vital anthems--and this is no exception. This setting of a paraphrase of Psalm 130 captures the spirit of the human cry for help adn the hope of forgiveness. Phrases start in unison and expand into a four-part texture that give the piece its natural flow. The harmonies are straightforward and are developed smoothly from each other. This anthem, while appropriate for Lent, could also be used as an introit throughout the year.
