Francis Jackson, whose honors include the Order of the British Empire, FRCO, FRNCM, Doctorate of York University, and Order of Saint William of York, began his musical career as a boy chorister at York Minster under Sir Edward Bairstow.
These studies were continued at Durham University where he graduated Bachelor of Music in 1937, and earned his doctorate 20 years later. From the age of 16, he was organist of Malton Parish Church, and succeeded Bairstow at York Minster in 1946.Dr. Jackson is not only known for his work as an organ recitalist, but for his compositions for the Church as well. His comositions include many organ pieces, a symphony and other works for orchestsra, and two monodramas: "A Time of Fire" and "Daniel in Babylon".
He is an honorary Fellow both of the Royal School of Church Music and of Westminster Choir College at Princeton University.
